The Carter pairs a walnut wood finish on the pole with silver metal accents on the base and pole, a neutral linen shade, and a round 11 inch base.
The Carter is not adjustable: the height and the shade are fixed. Its standout is the look, a walnut wood finish that reads like a piece of furniture rather than a light fixture. The practical extras are a pull chain under the shade to switch it on and off, and a socket rated up to 150 watts, the highest in the range, so it takes a much brighter bulb than most floor lamps if you want it to light a large room.
Not from the lamp: the pull chain is on/off only. The socket takes a standard A19 E26 bulb and is rated all the way to 150 watts, which is the most generous ceiling in the range, so a dimmable smart bulb or a much brighter bulb both drop straight in.
The Carter is multi-directional. The 19 inch linen drum shade is open top and bottom, so it lights the ceiling and the floor at once and fills a corner evenly. The head is fixed, so aim it by where you place it.
Yes. A 9.5 watt, 800 lumen, 3000K LED bulb is included, equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent. It is a standard A19 bulb with an E26 base, and because the socket is rated to 150 watts you have plenty of headroom to go brighter.
The Carter is offered in one version: a walnut wood finish with silver accents on the base and pole, and a neutral linen shade. The same design also comes as a table lamp, the Carter Table Lamp, and for a solid wood table lamp in a similar walnut tone, see the Oakley Table Lamp.
The Carter is transitional, which means it sits comfortably in both modern and traditional rooms. The wood finish suits living rooms, bedrooms, and reading corners, and it is a common pick for rooms that already have wood furniture and would look cold with a metal lamp.
The Carter stands 65 inches tall, close to the height of the average man (about 5'9"), with a 19 inch shade and an 11 inch base. The shade is the part to plan for: at more than a foot and a half across it needs real clearance beside a sofa arm, more than a slim lamp like the Sky.
The Carter ships in a wide, flat carton, 20.5 by 20.15 by 4.9 inches, weighing 15.9 lbs. The box is wide to fit the 19 inch shade, but it is flat and light enough for one person to carry in.
Assembly is required with no separate hardware pack: the pole sections thread together into the base and the shade seats at the socket. A few minutes, no tools.
A brighter bulb, if the room needs it. The Carter's socket is rated to 150 watts, far above the 60 watt ceiling on most lamps in the range, so it is the one lamp here that can genuinely light a large room from a single corner. A dimmable smart bulb adds dimming, which the pull chain does not do.
The Carter is covered by a 5 year warranty and is UL Listed, with US based customer service.
