The strand uses Brightech's WeatherTite construction: a heavy-duty black PVC cable with weather-sealed sockets, each with a built-in hanging loop, fitted with shatterproof PET plastic S14 bulbs instead of glass. It comes with a solar panel with a built-in rechargeable battery and a plug-in power adapter.

They run three ways. On solar alone, the panel charges by day and lights the strand for 6 to 8 hours after dark. Plugged in through the included adapter, they can run all day or night regardless of weather. In hybrid mode they run on solar first, then switch automatically to plug-in power until morning, which suits cloudy stretches and short winter days.

Yes, the colors are the main feature. The included remote picks from 15 solid colors, runs color-rotation and flashing effects, sets multicolor patterns such as mixed colors or red, white and blue across the strand, and switches to warm, soft or cool white when you want plain white light. The remote works from up to 164 feet away.

Each bulb glows all around, so the strand lights the space below and around it rather than casting a beam in one direction. The bulbs sit in line on the cable rather than hanging on drops, so they follow the line of the strand.

The bulbs come installed: S14-shaped color-changing LED bulbs with shatterproof plastic covers, 12 on the 27 foot strand and 15 on the 48 foot strand. They stay cool to the touch, so they are safe around guests and kids.

Two lengths are offered: 27 feet with 12 bulbs and 48 feet with 15 bulbs. A 104 foot version with 32 bulbs and a larger solar panel is also listed when in stock.

Outdoors over patios, decks, pergolas, balconies, gazebos and backyard seating, especially where an outlet is far away or there is none. The color modes suit parties and holidays, such as orange for Halloween or red, white and blue for the Fourth of July, and the warm white mode covers everyday evenings.

On the 27 foot strand, the bulbs sit about 20 inches apart along 18 feet of lit cable, with 6 feet of lead from the solar panel to the first bulb and 3 feet of cable past the last one. That suits a small patio, a balcony rail or one side of a pergola. The 48 foot strand spaces its 15 bulbs about 3 feet apart, with about 3.5 feet of lead from the panel, so it stretches across a larger seating area.

In a small standard parcel, nothing oversized. The 27 foot set ships in an 8.46 by 8.27 by 4.72 inch box at about 3 lbs, and the 48 foot set in a 9.84 by 8.66 by 4.72 inch box at about 3.6 lbs.

No electrician is needed. Hang the strand with the included clips or with zip ties, cup hooks or a guide wire, then set the solar panel in direct sun using the ground stake or mount it on a flat surface. Switch on at the panel for solar use, or connect the adapter, which has a 13 foot cord, to an outdoor outlet. The strand is rated IP55 and handles temperatures from -4 to 122°F.
